Genetics Passed Down
The People That Make Things Happen!

Joe and Esther Assman

Mike, Darla, Megan and Scott

Joe Assman came to the Mission, SD area in 1937 running 50 head of Hereford base commercial cattle on mostly leased land and farmed to feed the cattle. In 1945, Joe purchased the first quarter section of land where Assman Implement and the headquarters for Assman Land and Cattle now resides. In 1947, Joe and Esther were married and the operation continued to grow.

In 1979, Assman Land and Cattle was formed with Joe and Esther Assman; sons Greg, Chris, Brad, Dave, Mike and daughter Mary Beth. In 1986, we became involved with the registered Angus Breed. By 1989, the Hereford cattle were phased out and our Angus herd foundation was in place. In March 1994, Assman Land and Cattle purchased the complete cow herd of Twin Oaks Farm, Fred Frey and Sons, Quarryville, PA making a solid base to expand.

In 1990, our artificial insemination program took off when our herdsman, Chris Lovejoy, joined the ALC program. Our registered program developed into a progressive program with the commercial cattleman and the registered breeder in mind.

Assman Land and Cattle also secured ownership of five direct daughters of the GT Miss Traveler 58 cow. With nine sons in major AI studs, she is considered by many as the #1 cow in the Angus breed.

In 2006, some rather large changes took place here at ALC. Darla and I purchased 4/5ths of the registered cow herd. What hasn't changed is our committment to you, our customers, to continue to raise the best genetics possible and to stand by the cattle.

We continue to focus on performance and carcass value without sacrificing the most important part of our breed, the female. We feel this is our largest and genetically highest value group of bulls ever. The bulls have been developed in larger pens on a 46 mega cal diet to help insure longevity.

If you have any questions or want to set up a time to come and see the bulls or their dams, call us at (605) 856-2456 or my cell (605) 730-0966.

Our headquarters are located 9 miles east of Mission, SD and 4.5 miles south on the Hidden Timber Road.

We, at Assman Land and Cattle invite you to stop in and visit us anytime.  Mark your calendar for our 11th Annual Production Sale to be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

Sincerely;
        Mike Assman
